When you find something you like, be sure to have it inspected by a mechanic BEFORE you buy. A car that only costs $2000 could have problems that would cost you much more to have repaired. And since used cars are sold “as-is” you can’t take them back if you find problems after the sale.

A: As it’s your first car, I assume you’ll need something pretty cheap on insurance – you’ve mentioned £2,000, so I’ll assume that’s excluding money to insure, tax, maintain & fuel the car.
Firstly, you can discount Fords – they’re not particularly reliable, they certainly aren’t cheaper on parts than anything else, and they don’t stand up well to hard use.
Many people become obsessed with insurance costs – my nephew lives in a high risk area & had a BMW 318i when he was 18, it was no dearer to insure than his previous Suzuki.
As for fuel costs, it depends whether you need to use the car every day to commute – if you do, then you’ll need something economical, like this;

hey every one i am a 19 year old guy college student, i recently got my drivers licence. i will have about 2300 dollars saved in the bank in a few weeks, i want to buy a car under 2000$ since i want to use the remaining 200$ for the registration, luckily my father has offered to pay the insurance X )

-i have checked craigslist and have found Toyota Tercels cheap and some with miles a little over 100xxx, is that car a gas saver and reliable?

A: I’d say your best bet is to look at the Toyota Corolla or Tercel. The Camry is a great car, but won’t be as good on gas. The Honda Civic and Accord are good options as well. Both Toyota and Honda have well-deserved reputations for quality, which also means, however, that their resale value is usually high. So, if you can find a decent one in your price range, go for it.

i have a 1995 mitsubishi mirage. its a 4cyl with a great condition engine and brand new custom black/yellow interior. There are slight errors. The exterior of the car has a few dings and dents but nothing u can’t fix with a little body fill and some paint. the paint is faded and it needs a new hood cause the current hood is dented beyond repair. it looks ok though. The head lights are good and all lights work. The car is customized to my likeing but none of the additions to the car i made will be sold with it. im going to sell it at $1300 and that will be after i repair the car to full stock condition. btw the interior will stay black/yellow and the outside of the car will be Black. the stock rims are painted Black. I recently pulled the trans with and bought a brand new torque converter and put it in. the trans is cleaned and the engine runs great. it needs all new engine mounts which i will be replaceing to. the front windshield is cracked but not a horrible crack. It needs a new windshield which i am not going to do. if i were going to buy the car i wouldn’t worry much bout the windshield crack cause its on the pass side and its not noticible. I am getting into racing cars and i have a bunch of new additions but this car will not handle them i need a car that has a v6 and can be sporty as so a honda civic or accord . let me know what kind u have in mind and i would like answers from experienced people!

I dont want a Lexus or Caddy.

A: Either the Acura TL or the Mazda Millenia.
Consumer reports rates both of them as “used car best bets” for those specific years and both are known for their reliability.
If you can find a ‘99 or ‘00 Acura RL for that price, it is also nice.

I also like the Infiniti I-30, but personally, I think you are getting more for your money with the Millenia and the TL (if price and miles are equal).

In my opinion, the 2000 Passat is the only one on your list that is garbage, although the new V-6 Passat’s are nice (and expensive).
