A: My first car was a 1989 Acura Integra. I got the car in 2003 for $575. It was a great car with smooth shifting 5spd transmission. I loved it, but I did not take good care of it. It was my first car and I drove it very fast without oil changes. After 3 weeks the engine blew up. I wish I had taken better care of the car. It would probably have lasted me a while. Now I drive a $9000 Mazda MX5.

A: As it’s your first car, I assume you’ll need something pretty cheap on insurance – you’ve mentioned £2,000, so I’ll assume that’s excluding money to insure, tax, maintain & fuel the car.
Firstly, you can discount Fords – they’re not particularly reliable, they certainly aren’t cheaper on parts than anything else, and they don’t stand up well to hard use.
Many people become obsessed with insurance costs – my nephew lives in a high risk area & had a BMW 318i when he was 18, it was no dearer to insure than his previous Suzuki.
As for fuel costs, it depends whether you need to use the car every day to commute – if you do, then you’ll need something economical, like this;
