A: I bought my first car a year ago and I learned, you get what you pay for. I don’t know what state you live in but we have a place here where you can take a car you are interested in and they inspect it from bumper to bumper…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spend a little extra money and let someone really really inspect anything you are interested in. Check your local newspaper and ask around, to see if a friend of a friend knows someone who is selling a car…..

Q: Is a cheap remote car starter bad for my car?
I found this remote car starter kit at an auto store for about $30. I know that most remote car starters run for about $300. I know its not top of the line or anything. A: I had one that was not cheap and one day I came into the parking lot and it was trying to start the car by itself.

Even the pricey ones can fail. I would think the cheap ones are even worse. Will it work with your car alarm? Will it work if you have the car valet parked? Does it come with a decent warranty? Does it come with a video or complete instructions for YOUR car model [sometimes the generic instructions don't recognize wire color-coding changes made during a production run]? What will you pay to install it (or are you qualified to install it yourself)? Think about that before you get one and maybe save yourself some grief.

A: Ford Focus is a good car. Also the Chevy AVEO. These aren’t to expensive and are 4 door sedans so they are cheaper than 2 door coupes. You can get a good used Focus for under 10 probably. The newer ones are also on the cheaper side but good quality cars that have a lot of great features. I do not personally know about the AVEO but I have heard good things about it. Good Luck. Also, I have owed VW’s all my life, great cars that are safe and not toooo expensive, but they get costly to keep the service up. These are the safest cars I believe.

A: i work in insurance in australia.

well, i would have suggested getting “third party property damage only” type insurance, having it for a few years showing the insurance company that you don’t claimTHEN buying a more expensive vehicle. some insurers would take your third party only insurance history into account and give you a discount on comprehensive.

but, as you’ll no doubt want comprehensive insurance on this car, you’ll just have to shop around. “market value” type car insurance is usually cheaper than “agreed value” so you might want to start there.

i always recommend to young drivers to buy a car they don’t particularly care about writing off and insuring it third party only for a couple of years for exactly the top reason.

insurance is expensive for younger drivers as it’s pretty much guaranteed that their car is going to be involved in an accident.

if your parents are insured and you still live at home, try their insure to see if they give out a family discount.

ps. don’t bother trying to insure it under your parents name – it just makes it difficult when you need to claim. imagine, it’s pouring rain, you’ve just had an accident and you need to get a tow truck. if your car is insured under your parents name, then they would need to sort this out for you and if they are uncontactable. well. you get the drift. this kind of thing happens all the time.

A: Honda Civic… they are easy to fix (though they RARELY have problems) they are reliable, and they usually get anywhere from 25-35 mpg depending on the year.

Big dealerships send old vehicles to auction every day. So if you’re after say a Ford, go to your local Ford main dealers and tell them you want a car for £200 or however much your budget is, tell them if they have any part ex’s coming in with tax and mot that you’ll bid them for it unseen. Then just wait for the phone to ring. By bidding it means taking a risk on a car you havent seen, but it also means you will get a car at a bargain basement price, the same way that many dealers get them from the big boys.

It pays to be cheeky. I got a Peugeot 405 a few years ago for £50 !

A: HUGE difference between a 7 series and a 1 series. Why didn’t you just spend a couple thousand more and get the 3 series? The 3 series always gets great reviews. The 7 series has had mechanical problems for years.

A: For just doing the application your talking about a Honda civic is in your range. You can change anything on that car and for cheap. If you feel lime your gonna want power down the road go for a nissan 240sx. If that’s not your style then maybe an eclipse or 300zx.
